The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Legal Directorate (JU) – Legal Department, Operations (OPS) – Baltic Sea Division (MB) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a (Associate) Transactional Lawyer (Officer Legal Services). This is a full time, temporary position at grade 4/5.Panel interviews are anticipated for mid of March 2021.The term of this contract will be for a fixed period of time of between 12 to 24 months, subject to candidates’ preference and availability; as this is a temporary replacement assignment, no extension or conversion of the contract is foreseen.PurposeThe Baltic Sea Division (MB) of the Legal Department of the EIB is composed today of 8 lawyers. It provides legal advice to the EIB in relation to all types of its lending operations (including secured and non-secured transaction, structured finance, project finance and restructurings) and with all types of counterparts (from member states, local municipalities and banks to corporate organisations of all sizes and from all eligible sectors). Baltic Sea Division is at the heart of lending operations and financial products in the following countries: Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and EFTA states (Norway, Iceland and Switzerland).Operating NetworkAs a (Associate) Transactional Lawyer, internally referred to (Associate) Officer Legal Services), you will report directly to the Head of MB Division or a designated lawyer from the MB team.AccountabilitiesYou will provide legal advice on lending operations in relation to all the EIB projects handled by the MB team in Scandinavia, Baltics, EFTA States and Poland. Your post may involve limited amount of travel for negotiations and signatures of legal documentation. You will: Under a supervision of a lawyer from MB team, assist in drafting and negotiating legal documentation in English (including loan agreements, guarantees and other related finance documents) for lending operations (such as bilateral loans with banking sector counterparts, corporates and public sector entities); Offer legal advice on all matters related to the EIB’s lending operations; Assist in relation to disbursements of loans, documentary conditions precedent and other post completion legal matters; Liaise with external counsels whenever necessary; Undertake research and conduct legal studies on matters of law arising in connection with the Bank's operations and in the context of developing new products; and Build and maintain relationships within the Bank, its clients and external legal advisers.Qualifications University degree in law; Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience earned from a law firm (preferably) in advising on lending transactions; Professional legal qualification in the law of any jurisdiction where MB team operates (and preferably in Baltic States or Polish law), however lawyers having Luxembourg or English law qualifications are also encouraged; Experience in drafting and negotiating finance documents of LMA type documentation in English; Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English that permits to conduct high profile negotiations and draft finance documents; a good command of French (*) would be an advantage; capacity to negotiate in Swedish, Finnish, Polish, Lithuanian or Latvian would be a distinct advantage;CompetenciesFind out more about EIB core competencies here(*) There may be certain flexibility on this requirement, but limited to particularly suitable candidates who may not yet be proficient in French.
